Peer Support Reflection 12/03/2021

 Peer Support Reflection 12/03/2021

This is my first time doing peer support and, so far, it has been quite good. I enjoy working with the year sevens, and I like working with the other leaders. I feel as though peer support has increased my leadership skills, and made me more confident talking to others. I think peer support is a good opportunity to get me out of my shell, in order to help the year sevens feel comfortable, and work together with the other leaders. I think the activities we have been doing have gone quite well, and each week we have made slight changes that we think will make them turn out even better. Peer support has allowed my group to problem solve, and find solutions when there are problems. For example, if two of the year sevens in our group don't work well together and get easily distracted, the next week we would split them up. We have also come back to our team rules that we made if we need to reinforce something, or just remind them of the rules they set.

Last week, during the lighthouse building activity, our group worked extremely well. They all took part and communicated very well to create a lighthouse that was standing, and that had a working light. Although our tower wasn't the tallest, we were very proud of our group for working so well together, sharing ideas, listening to each other and being supportive of one another. I think all the leaders in my group were quite surprised by how well or year sevens worked together, and we were very impressed by how well they solved problems that occurred. I think our group is starting to get closer and closer as each week goes by, and I think the year sevens are starting to feel more comfortable around us and their peers.

New Zealand Changemaker - Arthur Lydiard

Reflection:

Things that I think that I did well in my New ZealandChangemaker assessment are, that I wrote full answerswith lots of imformation and detail. I think I used my time wisely when I was completing the assessment, and I think that I answered the questions well with lots of references. Things I struggled with were sometimes I found it hard to get the imformation about Arthur Lydiard and sometimes it took me a while to get everything I needed to answer some questions. For example, I found it hard to get everything about his life, but I found it easy to get imformation about his biggest achievement. I think I am at Extended Abstract because I answered all the questions in detail with lots of imformation about my hero. I listed some virtues my hero showed and I explained how he used them to overcome challenges. I also identifyed and explained how I could use his virtues in my life to help me overcome challenges.

Finishing the hydraulic arm - Plan for the day and reflection

Plan for the day:
Today we need to attach both of the upper and lower arms syringes. We need to make sure we attach them securely so they don't shift around. We need to finish our presentation slideshow and finish our presentation board.

Reflection:

Today we attached the upper arm
syringeand the lower arm syringe.

They didn’t work because we realized
that the arm is too heavy for the 10ml
syringes to lift so we would of had to use
20ml syringes so it has the power to lift it up.

Last night James and Danielle cut and glued photos on the science board. If we were to do this project again we would use 20ml syringes so it would actually be able to move.

Attaching all the syringes to the arm

Plan for the Day:
Today we are going to attach the claw syringe to the arm. We also need to attach the upper arm, lower arm, and turning syringe to the arm and if we don’t finish this today we will need to do it at home. We need to make sure that the syringes are secured tightly so that they arm will function smoothly and not move around. We will need to make sure that each individual syringe is functioning perfectly before we move onto the next syringe. We will also need to find what is the best way to attach the syringes to make sure they are sturdy and don’t move.
Image result for science boardReflection:
Today we got a science board
and started planning what we
are going to put on it.

We also started a presentation slideshow and put things like what we have learnt, why we chose this project and impact on the community.

We found out that the metal
we used for the claw was too
strong so we had to use slightly
weaker metal.

We started attaching syringes
to the arm. We glued and attached
the claw syringe on and it works and
we finished the  turning syringe. We have
decided not to do a control panel because
it was one of the reasons the prototype did not work.

Filling the syringes 7/09/2018

Plan for the day:
Today we need to put the spacer under the two claw pieces. We then need to start attaching the syringes to the syringe pipe and watch the video to accurately fill the syringes. We need to figure out exactly where we need to put the syringes on the arm and start attaching them. We also will need to find good quality wire for the two claw pieces.

Reflection:
Today we cut out the spacers, drilled a hole through them and attached the under the two claw pieces.

We filled the syringes with the food dye and water making sure we did it is exactly like the video. We made sure you could see the colour and it popped.

We bent some strong wire into a Z shape to pull the claw. We also drilled holes into the syringe and claw so now the claw is working we just need to attach it.

We also started a document with what we talked about with Wian Van der Worm and his opinion and ideas. It helped us learn more about hydraulics. He also printed some paper for us that had lots of hydraulics information on it. It was quite complicated for us but we got the basics. Next week we need to finish adding all the syringes and finish the presentation.

31/08/18 impact project reflection/plan for the day

Plans for the day:
Today we are going to attach the claw to the arm.
Mr Venter is going to show us how to add another nut to
the arm and show us how we can lock them together so
they won’t loosen. We need to finish all the construction
today so we can focus on the hydraulics (syringes) on
the weekend. If we don’t finish the construction today
we will finish it at home so we have a chance of finishing the arm.
Reflection:
Today we drilled a hole in the spacer we made last week and attached it to the arm. We also broke the first triangle by drilling a hole too wide. We had to cut out a new triangle and then we spent some time measuring the claw so we could drill the claws and attach it to the triangle. We downloaded some photos and described what was happening in the Real arm building process. We are going to fill the syringes with food coloring and attach them to the syringe pipes at home. And if we do not get the claw attached to the arm we we will do that and start the control panel at home as well.  Next week we want to Finish the control panel and start attaching the syringes to it Next week we are also going to start planning what we are going to to for the presentation and add a spacer in between the two claw pieces.
